Simple Tips for Improving Fuel-Efficiency

Simple Tips for Improving Fuel-Efficiency

It's widely believed that gas prices will remain high for at least the rest of 2021. To ease your financial pain at the pump, there are certain gas-saving measures worth taking. You can easily conduct some of these measures while you're out and about, while others can be completed affordably at the shop. At Peniston Automotive, our local mechanics can quickly complete maintenance tasks that will help your vehicle get the most miles per gallon possible.

Easy Ways to Boost MPGs

While going about your daily commute, you can take some basic measures to prevent fuel from going to waste. For both safety and fuel-economy, it's important that you drive with correct tire pressure. Typically, tire pressure needs to be somewhere between 30 and 35 psi and it's worth checking your tires for their exact pressure requirement so you can inflate them accordingly. When tires are underinflated, the engine will have to expend more power to get them to roll, which can cause gas mileage to drop. It's also important that you drive with proper tire pressure so that you reduce the risk of a blowout occurring. Another easy fuel-saving measure is to double-check that your gas cap is on tightly after each time you fill up. If your gas cap isn't tightly fastened, then fuel could evaporate before your engine gets the chance to run on it.

At our local auto shop, we can complete maintenance that helps to optimize fuel-efficiency. Air filters should be changed out every 12,000 to 15,000 miles, which will allow the right amount of air to get to the combustion chamber. This will then prevent your engine from burning an excessive amount of fuel to compensate for a lack of air. It's best to change fuel filters every 20,000 to 30,000 miles, which will prevent contaminants from hurting performance and gas mileage. We can also complete other basic maintenance measures, such as full-service oil changes and spark plug replacement, that will help your vehicle get the best gas mileage possible.
